Setting and Accessing Breakout Rooms

Breakout Room Settings 

  1. In your 4dc.zoom.us account, access "settings". 
  2. Scroll and locate "breakout rooms". 
  3. Set your settings however you would like them for your meetings. For example, you can assign participants to breakout rooms when scheduling. You can also broadcast a message to participants. 
     

Setting Up Breakout Rooms Before the Meeting Starts

  1. In 4cd.zoom.us, open an already scheduled meeting to set-up your breakout rooms for said meeting. 
  2. Click "edit" to open the meeting settings. 
  3. Scroll down and locate "options". Select "show" and check the box to "breakout room pre-assign". Below that checkbox, you will select "create rooms" to get started. 



  4. Once in "create rooms", add rooms, retitle rooms, and create the different groups you would like to have. 
  5. NOTE: Although it does suggest you can pre-assign participants to rooms, that is not the case with our Zoom account. Participants would have to register in advance for you to be able to pre-assign them to rooms. 

Setting Up Breakout Rooms During the Meeting

  1. In a live Zoom meeting, select the “More” 3-dot menu.
     
  2. In that menu, choose “Breakout Rooms” 

  3. Choose how many rooms to create and how they will be populated (automatically, manually, self-choice). 
  4. When ready, click “open all rooms” to begin. 
  5. When finished, select “close all rooms”.

NEW!! Let participants choose their own rooms! 

We are now able to allow our meeting participants choose their own breakout room. This is great for having participants breakout according to interest, assigned topic, or if you as the host just wants to give them the freedom to choose their own group! 

  1. In a live meeting, open your breakout room options using the 3-dot menu. 
  2. From there select "breakout rooms". 
  3. Then choose "options" from the breakout room dialogue box. 

Accessing Breakout Rooms as a Participant 

Get an overview of the basics in Zoom's support community Links to an external site.. The host will open the breakout rooms for you to access. From there you will either be assigned a room or have the ability to choose you own room, as mentioned above.
